Looking for a way to get active and involved for charity? Why not try a 'fun run,' where it's more about the enjoyment and camaraderie, as opposed to the competition of races, while raising awareness for a specific cause? Living so close to the city, there's always a fun run approaching.

I took my own advise and recently participated in my first 5K fun run, the DC Night Nation Run!  As the World’s ‘1st Running Music Festival’ for the Stand Up To Cancer charity, I knew this would be perfect. A mix of fun, exercising, and a good cause. I read the information, checked my calendar, asked a close friend to join, and BOOM! I was registered for my first 5K run. I didn’t tell others until a few days prior to the trip and got a lot of ‘are you sure you’re ready” and “are you going to run the whole time’ lol. To be honest, I can’t say that I prepared for this race other than my regular fitness schedule, but that wasn’t stopping me. I was going to go out and have fun lol. On the day of, we came prepared with our face paint and active wear and had a BLAST! It was literally a huge block party with selfie stops, vendors, DJ Booth at every marker in the run. Glow sticks, neon lights, and live music were in full effect with the nice evening breeze to match. We were also greeted by a live music after-party at the finish line. Check out some of the pictures below from the night!

So how did I stumble upon this particular run? Yep, you guessed it, Facebook again lol. If you’re looking to cross things off your local bucket list, definitely utilize Facebook Events as much as possible. Great night and event! I would do it again the next time it's back in DC or Baltimore. I want to do more runs this year, and actually run the entire course lol. I ran a good bit, but I want to be at the point where I can comfortably run (not jog) the full length. One day soon!
